The fall 2026 nail trends we'd actually wear

Muted metallics, almost-black blues and the softest French you've ever seen. Here's what's worth booking this season, and what you can happily leave behind.

Every fall there's a moment when summer nails start to feel wrong. The coral you loved in July looks a little lost next to a wool coat, and suddenly you want something richer.

This year's trends make that easy. They're less about loud nail art and more about colour, finish and a shape you can actually live with. Here's what we're seeing, and how to ask for each one at your next appointment.

1. Muted metallics

Chrome isn't going anywhere, but it has calmed down. Instead of the icy, mirror-like finish of a few years ago, the look now is soft pewter, rose gold and brown chrome. They're often brushed over a deep base so the shine looks like it's coming from inside the colour.

The rule that makes it look expensive: match the chrome to the colour underneath. Bronze over chocolate. Smoky silver over graphite. A warm sheen over burgundy. It reads polished, not party.

How to ask for it: your colour in gel or Shellac, plus the Chrome add-on. Tell your tech you want it subtle.

2. Almost-black blues

If you've worn black nails every winter since high school, this is your update. Deep midnight navy looks black indoors and turns blue the second you step into daylight. Near-black browns and inky plums do the same thing.

It's the shade that goes with everything in a Toronto winter wardrobe: black coats, grey scarves, denim, gold jewellery, silver jewellery. Short square or squoval shapes keep it sharp.

3. Earth-tone tips

The French tip gets a fall makeover: gold, amber, caramel and brown tips instead of white. Some people alternate shades nail to nail, others blend them into a soft ombré. On a sheer nude base it looks warm and a little vintage, like a camel coat for your hands.

How to ask for it: a sheer base with a coloured French. Bring a photo if you have a specific shade in mind.

4. Fantasy pearl

Think the inside of a seashell. Iridescent pearl finishes in white, pink, lilac or pale blue are everywhere, usually built from one sheer shimmering coat rather than full opaque colour. They catch the light every time you move your hands, without any glitter.

5. The almost-there French

The classic French is back, but blurred. The tip is thinner, and a hazy translucent layer goes over the top, so the white looks soft and cloudy instead of stark. It's the French for people who usually find French tips too done.

Thick, chunky tips are the thing to retire this year. If you love a French, go finer.

6. Micro details

Tiny dots, a small star, a single heart near the cuticle, a thin gold line. Micro details sit on a clean or sheer base and you only notice them up close. That's the point. One accent nail works; two or three is plenty.

How to ask for it: add Design to your service and keep the brief short: "one tiny detail on each ring finger" is a great starting point.

7. Just buffed

Not a trend you'll see on a mood board, but maybe the most requested look right now: bare, healthy-looking nails with a satin shine. The work is underneath: shaped, buffed, cuticles cleaned up, nails strengthened.

If your nails peel or bend, ask about BIAB (builder gel) in a clear or sheer shade. It gives the natural look more strength, so it lasts.

What we'd skip this season

  • Neon. If you can't give it up, use it as a single accent over a sheer base.
  • Chunky glitter. Fine shimmer and cat eye do the same job with more polish.
  • Extreme lengths. Shorter, balanced shapes are winning. They're also far easier with gloves, zippers and phone screens.
  • Thick French tips. Go micro.

Before you book

Not sure which way to go? Pick the finish first (glossy, metallic, pearl or bare), then the colour. Your technician can help with shape and length, and every look above works in Shellac, BIAB or on extensions.

When you're ready, book online at Etobicoke, North York or Aurora. It takes under a minute, and you can see real-time openings before you choose.
